Kent Cricket Board Survey

posted 28 Nov 2011 03:15 by Neil Rigby   [ updated 28 Nov 2011 03:16 ]

Please tell Cricket how it can help the people of Kent

We know that cricket doesn’t appeal to all, but we also know that we can provide more than just the traditional game.
Facilities can be used for much and we can help support other activities too.
We are here to listen so please give us suggestions on how we can be more appealing to such a wider diverse public that is Kent.   Not just playing the sport but providing social fun and community facilities too.
Kent Cricket Board (KCB) the Governing Body for Cricket in Kent based at Kent Cricket Club, have made many changes recently within its structures and volunteer groups that support the traditional game of cricket.
It is hoped that you, the people of Kent, can help by completing one of the relevant surveys we have produced online:

  1. Players, past or present :  Club cricket. Your game your views.
  2. Non Players :  Cricket is up for change.  How can we help you gain something from cricket? ( Survey for those who don’t & may never play cricket!)

PLEASE fill in these surveys – the wider the group the better.

HCC Annual Awards Night Friday 9th December

The club will be holding our Awards Night in the Club House on Friday 9th December. We have decided to hold the Awards Night in the Club House to enable us to keep the cost down for everyone and to hopefully welcome more younger players (15 and above), parents and friends.

Anthony Hacker, a good friend of the club and an outstanding caterer will be providing the food whilst our local Vintner Rodney Fletcher will be providing the wine.

The club will serve the wines at very reasonable prices.

So a damn cheap night so please support us!

Please complete the attached form and return it ASAP.

Please also note that the Sports Club AGM is on Tuesday 6th December 2011 at 20:00 in the Pavilion.

Thank you for your continued support of Horsmonden CC.

U9s Star in Tunbridge Wells Tournament

Tunbridge Wells CC U9 Boys Cricket Festival
Our U9s had a very enjoyable day at the Nevill Ground, the home of Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club taking part in the inaugral U9 Boys Cricket Festival 2011.
We got off to a great start with a very convincing victory over Leeds and Broomfield CC and followed it up with a disappointing defeat against Hayes CC, a match we felt we should have won. We got to play the hosts next, Tunbridge Wells CC 1 (1st in Kent) and were keen to make further progress against them. We managed this narrowly losing off the last ball! We had a disastous start to the innings but managed to pick ourselves up in the middle order and post a reasonably competitive total, so much we took the game to the last ball and lost narrowly.
Our final group game was against Plaxtol CC (2nd in Kent) and we were in real need of a win. Plaxtol batted first and posted a very competitve total, which fortunately after some sensible batting we chased down needing 2 off the last ball! Amazingly we managed it and this game was an incredibly exciting if not a bit nerve wracking!
Well, the group ended up with Hayes CC winning it and a 3 way tie for 2nd place which was where we ended up. Our last game was against second placed Tunbridge Wells Borderers who we always enjoy playing against! Fortunately this time we managed another convincing victory after TWBCC posted a decent score, we managed a big score with one of the highlights a 7 being run off a T-Shot!
Well done to all our U9 squad this season - such a talented group of boys!

Tunbridge Wells CC Girls Cricket Festival 2011

posted 5 Sep 2011 09:14 by Neil Rigby

Invitation to Tunbridge Wells CC Girls Cricket Festival
11am to 4pm, Sunday 11th September, 2011

After a very successful inaugural event in 2011, TWCC will be holding our 2nd annual Girls Under 11 Kwik Cricket Festival at the beautiful Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 10th September 2011.
We are inviting clubs from Kent, Sussex and Surrey and hope to have 24 teams at this year’s tournament, which will run from 11am until 4pm, with every team having the opportunity to play at least five matches during the day. Matches will be the 8 a side, 8 over Kwik cricket format.
Teams and their supporters will have access to the excellent facilities at the county ground, with the Pavilion bar open throughout the day and a BBQ set up for all to enjoy.
Please confirm that you would like to send an U11 girls team to the competition by contacting me at jeremy.tipper@btinternet.com or on 07899 985055. You are welcome to enter as many teams as you like as we want to encourage participation by as many girls as possible.
Tunbridge Wells CC also run a girls cricket group at the Under 9 age group and we would love to hear from clubs who have teams at this age group as well. Please let us know if you would be interested in bringing an U9 team to the event for an early introduction to competitive cricket.
We look forward to hearing from you and hosting what should be a great day for all the girls and their families.

All the best,
Jeremy Tipper

HCC make final at Newenden

posted 29 Aug 2011 12:19 by Neil Rigby   [ updated 15 Sep 2011 14:01 ]

After achieving 4th place at last year's Newenden Kwik Cricket Festival, Horsmonden did even better this year by making it all the way to the final!
HCC's group draw included Hastings Priory CC, Newenden CC Bucks and Marden CC. We won all our group fixtures and achieved the highest amount of runs – 283 against Marden CC.
Progressing through to the knock-out stage we faced the home club's A side Newenden CC Harts. After a good performance in the field we matched it with a good batting performance, winning the with a decent margin.
The final was a David and Goliath affair against Ashford CC (pop. 60,000!) with their Kent and District players. After a decent performance in the field with several wickets taken, our innings started very brightly only to be pegged back in the the middle order. Unfortunately our demise was prematurely announced over the PA in error with two overs to go and with it any chance of a counter-attack disappeared as heads dropped with the news. A very creditable performance from Horsmonden (pop. 2,100) none-the-less!
Team members received a medal and a special certifcate and they can be extremely proud of their achievement, so well done to all of them!

Rules

Normal Cricket Laws will apply with the following additions and amendments.

PITCH
Length of wicket = 16 yards

TEAMS & PLAYERS
Team players should be aged between 5 to 11 years of age. Players should be under 12 years of age on 28th August 2011.
8 teams will be participating. Each team will consist of 8 players, no more than 10 players in each squad.
No wooden bats or additional kit, e.g. wicket keeper’s gloves.
Each match will be of 16 overs duration.

FIELDERS
Move fielders after every over clockwise around wicket.
Every player to bowl and keep wicket.
Bowling is from 1 end only.
A catch, run-out, stumped, etc., as normal.

NO BALLS
If a ball, bowled, bounces more than twice before reaching the batsman, or if it reaches the batsman above shoulder height without bouncing, it will be called a “no-ball.”

2 runs are added to the batting team’s total, PLUS WHATEVER RUNS ARE SCORED, EITHER BY THE STRIKER OR BYES.

WIDES
Deliveries which are deemed by the umpire at the bowler’s end too wide for the batsman to reach when in the normal stance position shall be called WIDE immediately when the ball passes the batsman and 2 runs are added to the batting team’s total, plus any byes.

NOTE: NO MATTER HOW WAYWARD IT MIGHT BE, IF THE BATTER MANAGES TO HIT OR TOUCH THE BALL, IT IS NOT A WIDE.

No extra ball is to be delivered in the over for wides and no-balls.

NOTE: To encourage running between the wickets, the No Ball penalty of 2 runs are added to the batting total IN ADDITION to whatever runs are scored for that particular ball.

THE BATTING TEAM
The batting team starts with 200 runs and bats for 8 overs in pairs. Pairs will bat for 2 overs each irrespective of whether they are out. If a wicket falls, 5 runs are deducted from the total. The batsman who is out must not face the next ball.

LEG BEFORE WICKET
In very simple terms, a batter can be given out if the umpire feels that a ball, which hits his/her leg or foot, would have hit the stumps.

This rule will NOT be used UNLESS a batter deliberately blocks or kicks the ball with his/her leg or foot.

NOTE: THE GAME IS NOT 'TIP AND RUN'.

BOUNDARIES
To encourage children to run between the wickets, there are no boundaries. With pitches in close proximity, players should continue to retrieve a ball if it enters another playing area. Umpires should suspend play if another ball interrupts their game and where an accident may occur. If this happens, DEAD BALL must be called, and another ball bowled instead.

IF THE BALL IS LOST or difficult to retrieve straight away, umpires must CALL LOST BALL and award the batting side an agreed number of runs before the next ball is bowled.

UMPIRES
The nominated umpire for each team may umpire their respective team. The umpire from the fielding side will be at the bowling stump. The umpire from the batting side will be at square leg. Both umpires will keep score and agree the result at the end of each match.
UMPIRES MUST NOT COACH DURING THE MATCH.

POINTS SYSTEM
League positions are decided on points as follows: WIN = 3 POINTS; LOSE = 1 POINT; TIE (SCORES LEVEL) = 2 POINTS EACH.

Thereafter, positions are decided on runs total and then on wickets lost.
In the event of a tie, number of wickets lost to decide.
